AW22 Rick Owens ‘Gimp’ Mask Black Leather Full-zip Jacket

Rick Owens’ Fall 2022 collection was titled ‘Strobe’ in light of Philips bulbs’ that sat atop model’s heads. Having recently returned from Egypt, the American designer was inspired by the East’s geometry, stating “they have those shapes, those beautiful shapes” in a pre-show interview. While gorgeous in symmetric design and brutalist construction, it seemed as if Owens shied from the runway’s primary theme, BDSM. Seen in the likes of gimp masks, spiked dog collars, and of course the infamous ‘Urinal’ vest, the creative opted to explore his widely publicized interest in sex on the catwalk. While provoking, this concept is rather familiar for the seasoned designer, seen in his 2008 ‘blowjob’ photoshoot or 2017 ‘butt muscle’ music video (watch at your own risk). Dawning abrasive silhouettes and degrading tropes, Owens embraced his obscure relationship with sexuality, normalizing his kinks at the forefront of millions.

 

Debuting in the Autumn of 2022, this full-zip gimp jacket epitomizes Rick Owens’ interest in fetish-wear. Drawing from traditional BDSM suiting, Owens’ elevates the classic ‘gimp’ silhouette with a full black leather interior and glossy shell. Zipping over the face when worn, the jacket would be typically worn by a submissive during intercourse, restricting movement and vision, aided with masks, zippers and chains. Adorned with button snap welt and chest pockets, a raw hem encircled the bottom, in pair with silver hardware and eye slits on the hood. Tagged as a size 50 or medium, this piece is in pristine condition throughout.
