AW22 Rick Owens ‘Gimp’ Strobe Lamb Skin Shearling Fur Vest

 

Rick Owens’ Fall 2022 collection was titled ‘Strobe’ in light of Philips bulbs’ that sat atop model’s heads. Having recently returned from Egypt, the American designer was inspired by the East’s geometry, stating “they have those shapes, those beautiful shapes” in a pre-show interview. While gorgeous in symmetric design and brutalist construction, it seemed as if Owens shied from the runway’s primary theme, BDSM. Seen in the likes of gimp masks, spiked dog collars, and of course the infamous ‘Urinal’ vest, the creative opted to explore his widely publicized interest in sex on the catwalk. While provoking, this concept is rather familiar for the seasoned designer, seen in his 2008 ‘blowjob’ photoshoot or 2017 ‘butt muscle’ music video (watch at your own risk). Dawning abrasive silhouettes and degrading tropes, Owens embraced his obscure relationship with sexuality, normalizing his kinks at the forefront of millions.

 

Debuting in Rick Owens’ Autumn 2022 ‘Strobe’ collection, this iconic vest plays on the designer’s interest in BDSM fittings. Equipped with a lamb skin interior and shearling fur exterior, silver hardware accents a full length zipper, eye slits and breathing holes. Finished with a chest pocket and darting on the body, this vest is in new with tags condition as a size 48 or medium.
