SS04 Raf Simons “May The Circle Be Unbroken” Cargo Pocket Biker Jacket
Raf Simons’ spring 2004 collection was a spiritual journey filled with mystic symbolism and matured style. Pivoting effortlessly from a brooding, gloomy aesthetic seen in previous shows, “May The Circle Be Unbroken” (MTCBU) was a lighter transition into androgynous cuts and a wider colour palette. Simons’ insinuated a feeling of weightless absence underneath a harrowing cult aura, blending his previous ‘sinister’ approach with airy textiles and inviting graphics. The Belgian creative put prominence on minimalistic accessories and form fitting cuts, showcasing his progression and versatility as a menswear designer.
Subtle intricacies line this biker jacket and emulate the matured stance MTCBU portrayed for Raf Simons. The slate grey palette and metallic hardware is summed beautifully with belted straps and a sleeve cargo pocket, polished by a slim tentative cut and flared collar. Simons’ intentionally elongates either sleeve to create an exaggerated silhouette, dragging the torso as well. Tagged as a size 46 and fitting a medium/large, with some staining and signs of use throughout.
