Junya Watanabe’s Spring 2010 collection titled “Poem” paid homage to the designer’s renown Spring 2002 collection. Exploring love in many different ways, Watanabe debuted an array of tragic confessions and abstract stanzas atop gorgeous boxy cuts camp collars and baggy denim. The artisan strived to epitomize how lust felt, enlisting the tailors, pattern makers to depict their emotional viewpoints through script. As a result, each poem is inherently unique and personal to the author with legitimacy to one’s desires. The text’s heterogeneity is sincere and authentic, reinforced by the subtly broken English in which it was translated to. Despite rather minimal garments, the poems are insightful themselves, speaking for the items they’re bestowed upon. Not only are they captivating, but relatable and sincere, spoken from people, to people.
Crafted in part with Levi’s, a long-standing accomplice of the Watanabe namesake, this white trucker jacket is comprised of an airy cotton base. On the underside, a poem reads in bold black lettering; “What exactly is mortality. Mortality should not be swallowed whole. Morality is seeked and acted out in your own life time. Mortality must go beyond what other teach you”. Complete with buttoned pockets and reinforced seams, this jacket fits a boxy cut. In great condition throughout, tagged as a size medium.
