SS10 Maison Margiela ‘Single Lens’ Black Monocle/Mangifying Glass

In present day, Martin Margiela remains a fashion forefather, avant-grade pioneer and symbol of the anti-fashion circuit. Swimming against the current of haute couture in the late 1980’s, he’d rework the seams of the fashion industry in spite of restrictive social norms. Working in conjunction with his team to deconstruct each and every preconceived notion of wearable art, Magriela would craft pieces far ahead of their time. Building an understanding of clothing behind a wall of air tight anonymity, the creative strived to let each piece speak for both itself and the Maison. Questioning the industry and in turn the audience, Martin Margiela made for enthralling collections over many decades.

 

Debuting in Margiela’s Spring 2010 collection, this unique accessory plays on a common theme throughout all of the Belgian Maison’s work - deconstruction. Using the frame of a pair of wayfarer glasses, the design team crafts a monocle / magnifying glass by splitting a pair in half, creating an extremely unique artifact. Coming with the original dust bag and box, this piece is in pristine condition throughout.
