Rei Kawakubo summed her Spring 2018 collection with a brief statement; “What’s on the inside matters”. Youthful models bounced down the runway as their jacket’s interior flashed, coated in joyous hues of vibrant colours. With each step their personalities became fluent, crowding each other, posing to the audience, and smiling. The outwear was intentionally constructed inside out, the under layers bursting with pigment. Through every detail Kawakubo reminded us of our inner-selves, personalities and character traits, allowing each to run wild in the face of couture.

 

From the array of garments, the most promising lied in the spirits of knitwear. Abstract patterns ran through each, complimented with polarizing prints and contrasting palette. Worn close to the body, each portrays unshackled emotion, an idiom of persona. Through the cherry red hues and a striped hem shown above, disparity is seen in a polarizing hot pink, cheetah print. The clash and chaos make for a extremely unique garment, knitted in a tight weave manner. Tagged as a size medium, fitting slightly oversized, in pristine condition throughout.
