SS18 Junya Watanabe x Levi’s ‘Paint’ Back Buckle Trucker Jacket
Junya Watanabe’s Spring 2018 collection brought perfected minimalism in it’s purest form. Working with long-time collaborative brands such as Levi’s and Carhartt, Watanabe elevated the worker’s uniform, coating jackets with paint and adorning leather patches to denim. Models represented the laborious work force, walking in what could have been their every day apparel. Hits from The North Face and Karrimor were seen on much of the outerwear, coming in similarly tonal colours. The collection was subtle yet concise, and evidently a product of Junya Watanabe.
Debuting in Junya Watanabe’s Spring 2018 collection as a collaboration with Levi’s, this incredible trucker jacket features paint splatter atop a wheat base. Referencing traditional workwear silhouettes, this ironic spin on a tradesman’s overcoat is something we’ve seen from the likes of Helmut Lang in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Yet, Watanabe retains utmost authenticity within his personal designs, opting to instead create an abstract, colourful patterns (an attribute designers like Lang often strayed from), in order to create an entirely unique silhouette. As a whole grail in Watanabe’s archive, this piece comes as a size large and is in great condition throughout.
