SS22 Louis Vuitton ‘Graffiti’ 3D Spray Paint White Graphic T-Shirt

Virgil Abloh’s Spring 2022 collection at the Louis Vuitton Maison debuted in part with a short film titled ‘Amen Break’. Metaphorically inspired by an unknown drum solo from 1969, which is accredited as the rooting sample for all hip-hop music, the collection focuses on this trope of reinterpretation and transmission in perspective. Adorned with a deep level of creative fluidity, Abloh strives to articulate his interest in generational influence, the art of repurposing and isolating an otherwise saturated idea. Discarding the premise of “owning creativity”, the menswear director, much like the sampled drum break, creates a series of differing versions of the same tracksuits and t-shirt silhouettes. While maintaining a nearly identical exterior blueprint, Abloh demonstrates that one can and should rethink what’s been previously thought, using chess as a muse to represent this strategic battle.

 

Debuting in the Spring of 2022, this graphic t-shirt stands in line with the collection’s overarching theme of heterogeneity. Despite a rather basic, white heavyweight cotton base, Abloh’s pushes focus towards the airbrushed graffiti graphic which was popularized in the wake of 90s hip-hop. Stretching across the chest, neon hues contrast against a stark white foundation and is finalized with an exposed reverse logo neckline tag on the underside. Tagged as a size extra small, this piece fits an oversized medium and is in pristine condition throughout.
