For Lee Alexander McQueen’s Spring 1995 collection, the British designer referenced Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 film, “The Birds”. The movie is a critically acclaimed work, in which a town is attacked by a flock of highly aggressive birds as symbolism “against the humans to punish them for taking nature for granted”. Combining this ominous medium with a distinct interest in roadkill, together the two tropes would be seen continuously throughout the show. Walking down the white lined catwalk made to resemble a road, McQueen would begin by adorning feathers and bird prints atop incredibly high neck collars. Then unveiling an arrangement of oddities like plastic-wrapped, sweeping red dresses, perhaps an ode to crime scene body bags, he’d paint tire marks across model’s bodies and debut asymmetric, transparent tops that revealed model’s breasts and kidneys, yet another detail that resembled an isolating veil seen in operation rooms. Finished with scotch tape dresses and leather jeans cut so low model’s buttcracks were visible, McQueen would yet again, dominate the European runway circuit with a theatrical, hauntingly dark show.
Debuting in the Spring 1995 collection, this collared button up comes in a gorgeous peach tone. Fit with pearl button hardware and harsh contrasting tire mark details on the front and backside, a dagger collar is pinned to the shoulders with accenting hardware. Tagged as a size small, this piece is apart of fashion history, and is in pristine condition throughout.
