Debuting in Raf Simons’ Autumn 2003 collection titled ‘Closer’ this impossibly rare hoodie features the Blue Monday patch atop a white raglan oversized base. Referencing New Order’s 1983 album titled ‘Power Corruption and Lies’ the centre graphic derives from the original record’s vinyl back covering that was designed by Peter Saville and Brett Wickens.

The colour wheel displayed on the hoodie and sleeve functions as a decoder for a visual alphabet, assigning specific colours and combinations to subsequent letters and numbers. By matching the pigmented blocks to their corresponding positions on the wheel, the viewer can translate abstractions into information. This hoodie itself, reads ‘FACT 75’ in reference to Factory Record’s internal SKU / ID number associated with the album. In essence, the wheel effectively transforms colour into language, allowing typography and written information to be replaced by a compact graphic code.
